Mischa nasce a Londra ma si trasferisce a New York da bambina. Mischa è per metà inglese e per metà irlandese e ha due sorelle Hania e Zoe. Ha studiato a Manhattan dove ha vissuto con la sua famiglia. Il suo ultimo anno di scuola lo ha concluso via corrispondenza, ed è decisamente una buona studentessa. La sua aspirazione è quella di frequentare la scuola di recitazione e arti drammatiche di Yale. Mischa debutta a nove anni in teatro a New York nel ruolo principale di Tony Kushner in Slavs!, ma il debutto cinematografico lo ha nel 1998 nel film Lawn Dogs. Il suo ruolo successivo è in Pups, una versione moderna di 'Bonnie & Clyde'. I suoi ruoli successive sono nel Sesto senso, Notting Hill, lost and Delirious, Julie Johnson e Skipped Parts. Inoltre Mischa ha partecipato ad altri recenti film quali, il film di quest'estate lost an Delirious altri in uscita come Julie Johnson con Courtney Love e Lili Taylor che hanno già ricevuto dei riconoscimenti, Skipped Parts con Jennifer Jason Leigh e Draw Barrymore, Tart con Melanie Griffith e Dominique Swain, Paranoid con Jessica Alba. Dopo aver passato del tempo in Australia per il telefilm della Disney Ring of endless. Mischa torna in america e partecipa come ospite nel popolare dramma televisivo once and again (in Italia "Ancora una volta"). Un altro sua tappa si svolge in UK e Luxembourg dove Barton gira un film thriller intitolato Ocatne che dovrebbe uscire prossimante. Al momento Mischa lavora sul set della serie Televisiva Fox the O.C nel ruolo di Marissa. Quando fuori dal set Mischa passa il suo tempo libero con la sua famiglia e gli amici, Nativa di Manhattan dove risiede tutt'ora con la sua famiglia e le sue due sorelle.
